Opening

FADE IN: EXT. CAR
A girl (MOLLY)is driving down a country road, she's listening to the radio "Zombie Zoo" is playing. She takes her eyes off the road for a second, when she looks back there's someone standing right in front of her car. Screaming, she tries to break, but it's too late. She hits the person.

She gets out and finds the body of the person she hit, lying on the road. Blood is seeping from their head. Panicking, she opens up her boot and piles the body inside and speeds away.

FADE OUT

INT. HOUSE.
A guy (JACOB)is sat with a laptop. Various noises are heard, including msn, etc.

CUT TO: EXT. HOUSE
MOLLY pulls up outside a house. Stopping for a moment to think about what she's done, she stares ahead of her, tears begin to form in her eyes. She gets out of the car and runs to the house.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE
The girl stands in the kitchen and pours herself a glass of water. The guy from before comes through. She is visibly distressed.

JACOB
What's wrong?

MOLLY
You're into all that CSI crap, right?

JACOB
(laughing)
Yeah... Why? Killed someone?

MOLLY says nothing.

JACOB
That's where you say "Oh, no.. Nothing like that.."

MOLLY finishes the water in her glass and looks at him.

JACOB
What the fuck have you done?

MOLLY lets out a sigh.

MOLLY
It's in the car...

MOLLY begins walking to the car, with Jacob following her.

CUT TO: EXT. DRIVEWAY/STREET

JACOB
What's in the car?
...
Molly, what have you done?
...
I don't want to get caught up in anything... Anything, illegal.
...
Molly!?
...
I hate you sometimes, you know that, right?
...
I could just go back into the house, I don't have to deal with your shit.
...
Why are we even friends?
...

They get to the car, MOLLY opens the boot.

MOLLY
It's gone!

JACOB
It's gone? What's "it"? Where's it gone?!

MOLLY
The body. I hit someone with my car.

JACOB
...The body?..

(talking to himself)
The body! Of course! What else? Why wouldn't you put the body of someone you just killed into the boot of your car?

(to MOLLY)
I'm going back inside. Might be a good idea if you just left.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE
JACOB enters the house again, stressed, he walks to the living-room, he is followed closely by MOLLY.

MOLLY
You're supposed to help me!

JACOB
HELP YOU!? Help you with what, exactly?

MOLLY
With... With the body..? You know things, you've seen the shows.

JACOB
SHOWS. TELEVISION PROGRAMS. They're not documentaries!

MOLLY
Yeah, but you know more than I do.

JACOB
Perhaps, but at this stage I'm wondering if there is anyone who doesn't! - Also, let us not forget, that boot was empty. If you did hit someone and put them in there, you didn't do a very good job of killing them!

MOLLY
They were dead. I made sure.

JACOB
What do you mean, "made sure"? Whack them over the head with a shovel before dumping them in the car?

MOLLY
No! I checked for pulse, etc. There was nothing. No breathing, nothing.

JACOB
Well, it didn't just up and walk away itself now, did it?!

CUT TO: BLACK

...and so it begins.

A scream is heard from off camera.

FADE IN: INT. KITCHEN

MOLLY and JACOB are standing there, they both look at each other.

MOLLY

Did you hear that?

JACOB

...Unfortunately.

MOLLY

We have to go see what's happened.

MOLLY rushes out the door, JACOB sighs and follows her.

CUT TO: EXT. STREET.

The two run out into the street and look around, at first they can't see anything, but then spot someone lying on the ground. They run over to it.

JACOB

It's Eva Henderson, I used to go to school with her.

MOLLY

Is she dead?

JACOB rolls the body, revealing a massive chunk to be missing out of her neck.

JACOB

I'd say so.

MOLLY

What do we do?

JACOB

How about... and I know this is a new idea to you, how about we call 999. Y'know, instead of pouring the body into the boot of our car and speeding away?

JACOB takes his phone out of his pocket and dials.

PHONE

All our operators are busy at the moment, please try again later.

JACOB

It's engaged. Stay here, I'll be back in a second.

JACOB runs back to the house and grabs his laptop, trying to get the number for the local police station. Eventually he gets it and tries to call. It, too, is engaged.

He turns on the TV. The news is on.

TV

...attacks have been coming in from in and around the Elgin area. Police recommend that you stay in your house. Do not attempt to help the injured...

CUT TO: EXT. STREET

MOLLY is sat on the bonnet of her car, looking at Eva's body. JACOB comes running back out to her.

JACOB

Molly! Get in the house. Now!

He grabs her wrist and pulls her in, looking back at the body of .

MOLLY

What? What's happened? What did the police say?

JACOB

Police didn't say anything. The lines are jammed. It's on the news though...

JACOB and MOLLY get back into the house and JACOB locks the door behind them. As he shuts the door, the camera cuts back to Eva's face. As the door closes, her eyes open.

Go check the windows!

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE

MOLLY is confused about what's happened/happening. JACOB is running around closing checking the windows and closing the curtains.

MOLLY

What's going on?!

JACOB

Go check the windows in the bedrooms.

MOLLY

Not until you tell me what's happening!

JACOB grabs the remote control and switches on the TV. The news report is on a constant loop. MOLLY stands and watches it.

TV

Emergency phone lines have been inundated with calls relating to attacks in the area. Officials say that the victims of the attacks, should, as far as medical science dictates, be dead. However, the bodies are, for reasons unknown, keeping their motor functions – Leading many people to describe them as Zombies. Police have warned against the dangers of venturing outside, stating that if possible, you should stay in your homes and make them as secure as possible.

MOLLY looks at JACOB who has stops checking the windows for a second.

MOLLY

(with a sense of fear in her voice)

...Zombies?..

JACOB

Check the windows in the bedroom...

MOLLY stands for a second, before running to the bedroom.

FADE OUT

What about Jack?

<-6 HOURS LATER->

FADE IN: INT. LIVING-ROOM

MOLLY and JACOB are both sat, in silence.

MOLLY

Do you think this was my fault?

JACOB

What?

MOLLY

I hit that guy, he was dead... He got out and...

JACOB

I'd love to say yes, but honestly? He was probably already dead when you hit him.

MOLLY

Hmm. What are we gonna do now though? We can't stay here forever.

There is a sudden banging at the window. Making both JACOB and MOLLY jump.

JACK

LET ME IN!

MOLLY

(to JACOB)

Who the fuck's that?

JACK

C'mon, JAKE, let me in! Please. Quickly – They're coming!

JACOB jumps up and runs to the window, opening the curtains. He sees JACK standing there. He runs to the door and opens it for him.

JACK

(breathing heavily)

Thank.. you..

JACOB

Where have you been?

JACK

I was driving back from Forres, there was a massive accident on the road just outside town. I had to make a run for it. They're everywhere!

MOLLY

...Everywhere?

JACK

I didn't see any 'normal' people on my way here.

MOLLY's eyes begin to tear up, she goes and sits on the couch.

JACOB

(to MOLLY)

What's wrong?

MOLLY

You heard what he just said. There's no-one out there. No parents, no family, no friends...

JACK

...I said I didn't see anyone, there might still be people out there.

MOLLY

And do you either of you really believe that?

Neither of them respond.

MOLLY

Yeah, that's what I thought.

MOLLY gets up and leaves the room. Tears still falling down her face.

In need of WiFi

JACK and JACOB are still in the living-room, JACK watches MOLLY leave the room before turning to JACOB...

JACK

Is your wifi still working?

JACOB

I think so, why?

JACK

I found a site last night that could help.

JACOB

Last night?

JACK gets his laptop out of his bag and loads it up.

JACK

Elgin wasn't the first place affected. It's slowly spreading east. They think it started on one of the western isles.

JACOB

Why haven't we heard about it before now?

JACK

They've been localising the news. Keeping it to infected zones. If people knew, there'd be widespread panic.

JACOB

Surely preparing us would have been better?

JACK

Perhaps, but if you'd known the dead were rising, would you really have just gone and gotten supplies to try and last it out?

JACOB

I guess not.

JACK

No, you would have ran. Just like everyone else.. Causing mass hysteria, accidents on the roads, etc. They kept the news localised hoping they'd stop it before it got any further.

JACOB

So, what's causing it?

JACK

To begin with, they thought it was an actual infection, passed person to person. As you've seen, they bite. Now though, they think it's in the air. There has been an easterly wind blowing for the past week, pushing whatever it is from the Western Isles to... Well, here. It'll keep going...

JACOB

...and nothing can stop it?

JACK

You can stop the infected, but you can't stop the infection.

CUT TO: BLACK

Video killed the radio star.

CUT IN: INT. BEDROOM

MOLLY is standing at the window, it's dark outside, the glow of the street light is hitting her face. She's stopped crying, but you can see where the tears have been on her face. Outside, she sees her car, with the boot still open. The street is quiet.

The door to the bedroom opens, she turns quickly to see who it is – it's JACOB.

JACOB

Are you OK?

MOLLY

For now.

JACOB

You should come downstairs, Jack has something you should see.

MOLLY

What?

JACOB

It's a video. You need to watch it.

MOLLY

A video?! - Is now really the time?

JACOB

Trust me. Come on.

CUT TO: INT. LIVINGROOM

JACK is sat on the couch, with his laptop. JACOB and MOLLY enter the room. Seeing MOLLY he puts the laptop on the table. Letting her sit down in front of it.

JACK

OK, just press play.

JACOB

(to MOLLY)

Do you want anything to drink?

MOLLY

Not just now.

JACK and JACOB leave the room and go to the kitchen, MOLLY settles herself on the couch before pressing play.

We see the video “What to do in a Zombie Attack” starts to play.

CUT TO: INT. KITCHEN

JACOB is making coffee for both himself and JACK.

JACOB

You really think the stuff in that video will help?

JACK

I know it's old, but I've looked, I can't find anything else. If we're gonna leave, we have to be prepared. All of us.

JACOB

Where are we going to go though? You said yourself, there's no-one out there.

JACK

I'm not saying we leave town, but we're gonna need food and other supplies.

JACOB

I guess.

CUT TO: INT. LIVINGROOM

MOLLY is still watching the video, we see some more of it. JACOB and JACK come in as it finishes. They sit down and look at MOLLY, she closes the laptop lid.

MOLLY

Why are you looking at me like that?

JACOB

Did you watch it all?

MOLLY

Yeah...

JACK

...and?

MOLLY

I'm not sure what you want me to say. I just watched a 50s informational video telling me how to kill the people I share a town with. How to kill you, if needs-be. What am I supposed to say to that? Do you want me to just go grab a shovel now and start hitting you around the head?

JACOB

I'd rather you didn't, thanks.

MOLLY

Well then, since I have no intention of leaving and nothing to make me want to, telling me to watch that video was sort of pointless, wasn't it?

JACK

But we can't stay here forever...

JACOB

He's right, I mean, we can stay in the house... But I haven't been shopping in days, we're gonna need food and other stuff.

MOLLY

So what you're saying is I have a few choices... Stay here, die of starvation or leave and possibly be attacked. No matter how much food we get, we'll still have to get more. What happens when the supermarket runs out? When we've taken it all, then what? Do we try another town? Hope there's more there?

JACOB

But...

MOLLY

But nothing, you don't think things through. We're fucked no matter what we do. A video telling you to smash their brains in with their own limbs isn't going to help us in the long run.

FADE OUT.

Hide & Seek

<-2 DAYS LATER->

FADE IN: EXT. STREET.

We see MOLLY's car in the background. There's a body lying on the ground, covered in blood, stomach burst open. A Zombie is digging into the stomach, pulling at the guts.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/BEDROOM

MOLLY, JACOB and JACK are all at the window, upstairs. Watching the Zombie feed.

MOLLY

How many more do you think there are out there?

JACK

What's the population?

JACOB

We have to go out though. We need food.

MOLLY

So do they...

Jack closes the curtains.

JACK

We should wait until it's dark.

MOLLY

So they can sneak up on us?

JACK

So we can sneak up on them. If we wait until night, it gives us more places to hide.

MOLLY

Hide & Seek with the un-dead cannibals. Can't wait.

FADE OUT.

RUN!

<-8 Hours Later->

FADE IN: INT. HOUSE/LIVINGROOM

JACOB is at the window, while MOLLY and JACK are packing bags with some things.

JACOB

There's more out there now.

JACK

Crap.

MOLLY

Are we still gonna go?

JACK

We don't have a choice.

JACOB

How fast can these things move?

JACK

When they want to? You'll have trouble our-running them.

MOLLY

Which is why we're going at night. So they can spot us and get us before we even know they're there. Awesome.

JACOB

When are we going to leave?

JACK

No time like the present, I guess.

JACOB grabs a bag from the couch, MOLLY and JACK put their bags on their backs and they all head for the door.

MOLLY

Shouldn't we go out the back? - You were all for the element of surprise earlier, opening the front door onto however many Zombies that are out there might not be the best way to go about that.

JACK

You raise a good point. To the back door!

They all go out the back door and down the side of the house. A few of the Zombies are surrounding something. They don't stop to find out what though.

They make it around the corner without being noticed. The street is quiet. MOLLY trips and falls, she lets out a scream.

There's a shot of one of the Zombies from infront of the house. They've heard the noise.

JACOB and JACK both help her up.

JACK

Are you OK?

MOLLY

I think so.

JACK

Good. RUN!

All three run as fast as they can, they make it along the street and around the corner.

MOLLY

STOP! Stop... I need to stop.

JACK

What's wrong?

MOLLY

I've got asthma... I just need to stop for a second, I'll be fine in a minute.

JACK

Have you not got an inhaler?

MOLLY

Y'know what Jack, when I left the house 3 days ago, I didn't expect to be doing that much running! - So no, I don't have an inhaler... Fuck you!

JACK

(kinda shocked)

...Sorry.

MOLLY

(taking a deep breath)

I'm fine, lets start moving again.

They walk up and around another corner.

Glowing Green Asda Sign

CUT TO: EXT. ASDA CAR PARK

With the glowing green ASDA sign in the distance, JACOB, JACK and MOLLY come into frame.

JACOB

What do we do? Make a run for it?

JACK

No. If there's people inside, they could be armed. If there's any of 'them' inside, we don't want to run to them.

MOLLY

OK. Lets do it.

They begin to slowly walk across the car park, checking around them all the time. A few shots inside the store show that it's empty. Eventually we see the gang appear at the doors, which open automatically for them. They're still wary, they grab a trolley which is sitting just inside the door and begin to walk around the store.

JACK

What do we need?

MOLLY

Things that won't go off. Nothing frozen. We don't know how long we'll have power for. If you want milk, it's going to have to be the UHT crap.

JACK

Lets go.

And so begins a montage ripped straight from 28 Days Later. The montage stops as they walk towards the door with a trolley full of cans and stuff.

JACOB

Wait - We can't push this trolley all the way back.

JACK

Why not?

JACOB

Not exactly stealthy, is it? - We'll need to carry it.

MOLLY

Ugh.

FADE OUT.

Auchterarder

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE

The gang dump their shopping in the kitchen and go to the living room. They made it back to the house without any trouble. The zombies have moved on. MOLLY is at the window looking outside.

MOLLY

Where do you think they went?

JACK

Can't say I care, just so long as they're not at our door.

She comes and sits down on the couch.

MOLLY

I guess. I'm pretty tired, I think I'm gonna go to bed.

Without waiting for any “goodnight's” she leaves. JACOB is on the internet.

JACK

What are you looking at?

JACOB

Trying to find out how far this thing has spread.

JACK

What exactly are you looking for? Comfort knowing that anything south of Auchterarder is fine? I told you – It's not going to stop spreading.

JACOB

Auchterarder, really? That was the first place to come to mind?

JACK

I just like saying it.

But my point still stands!

JACOB

Perhaps, but we won't know. The news sites are down.

He closes the laptop and puts it down on the table.

JACOB

I think I'm going to try and get some sleep too.

JACK

I won't be long behind you.

CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM

MOLLY is in the bed, sleeping, on the floor are two sleeping bags and pillows. JACOB comes into the room and gets into one of the sleeping bags and falls asleep.

I'm wide awake, it's morning.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE – DAY

MOLLY comes downstairs and wanders into the kitchen. She gets a drink and then goes to the living room. It's empty. She sits her glass down and goes through each room downstairs, looking for JACK. With no sign of him there, she goes upstairs and again, checks each room. Nothing. Eventually she goes and wakes JACOB.

MOLLY

(nudging him)

Jake... Wake up..

He stirs for a moment before opening his eyes.

JACOB

What is it?

MOLLY

Did Jack come up here last night?

JACOB

Why?

MOLLY

He's gone.

JACOB
What do you mean gone?

MOLLY

As in, no longer in the house?

JACOB sits up, paying attention now.

JACOB

Are you sure?!

MOLLY

Yeah, I checked every room. He's not here.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/LIVING ROOM

JACOB and MOLLY come running downstairs and into the room.

JACOB

I left him in here last night, he said he was just about to come up too.

MOLLY

Well, he didn't.

JACOB notices that JACK's bag is still there. He runs over to check it.

JACOB

All his stuff is still here...

MOLLY

...Maybe he's just gone to get something...

JACOB

Something that couldn't wait until today? When we could have all gone?

MOLLY

...Maybe...

Lets just give him a while to get back, if he doesn't, then we can think about what we're going to do.

JACOB

Fine.

FADE OUT.

Dude, where's my car?

FADE IN: INT. HOUSE/LIVINGROOM

MOLLY is sat watching a DVD on the laptop. JACOB is sat on pacing around, looking at the clock every now and then.

MOLLY

Stop it!

JACOB

Huh?

MOLLY

Just sit down!

JACOB

It's been 4 hours. I'm going out there.

JACOB heads towards the door. MOLLY throws the laptop onto the couch and chases after him.

MOLLY

You can't!

JACOB opens the door, MOLLY quickly pushes it closed again.

JACOB

Where's your car?

MOLLY

What?!

MOLLY opens the door again, looking out into the street. Her car's gone.

MOLLY

That bastard stole my car!

MOLLY slams the door shut.

CUT TO: BLACK

Grace

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/LIVINGROOM B&W

JACK is sat on the couch, using the laptop. His MSN is signed in. No-one's online. He's about to close the laptop, when there's an MSN noise. Someone signed in. It is closely followed by them saying something to him.

MSN

Grace says: Jack?

Jack says: Where are you? Are you OK?

Grace says: I'm alive, if that's what you mean.

Grace says: They're downstairs. I'm trapped.

Jack says: You're at home?

Grace says: Yes.

Jack says: I'm on my way.

JACK closes the laptop and grabbing MOLLY's car keys heads outside. He closes the boot and starts up the engine.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/ATTIC

Grace is sat in a corner, with her laptop. Tears are streaming down her face. She closes the laptop. Leaving herself in darkness. Moans and other noises, from the Zombies, can be heard from below her.

MSN

Grace says: What? You can't. You won't make it.

<-The following message could not be delivered: What? You can't. You won't make it.->

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/KITCHEN

MOLLY and JACOB are both in the kitchen, putting the shopping from last night into the cupboards.

MOLLY

I can't believe he's done this! Just who does he think he is?

JACOB

You were the one sure he'd be back!

MOLLY

That's before I knew he'd taken my car. He's probably gotten as far away from here as possible.

JACOB

That's not who he is. If he'd found a way out of this mess, he would have taken us with him.

CUT TO: EXT. ROAD

MOLLY's car is lying empty, the door open. There's a trail of blood leading from the door.

FADE OUT.

Lines are now closed.

CUT TO: INT. HOUSE/KITCHEN

MOLLY and JACOB are still standing talking.

JACOB

What about his laptop, did you check it?

MOLLY

For what?

JACOB

I don't know, he might have found something online. Something that could help us.

They both go through to the living-room, JACOB picks up JACK's laptop. He checks the browser history first.

JACOB

(annoyed)

The perving bastard has set his history to be wiped whenever he closes the browser.

MOLLY

What about his msn history?

JACOB

Good call. Though who would he have been speaking to?

JACOB goes through his files, until he finds the last MSN conversation. He opens it.

JACOB

Crap.

MOLLY

What?

JACOB

It's Grace. She's alive.

MOLLY

Grace, his sister?

JACOB

Yes. He's gone to get her. She was, maybe still is, stuck in her attic, with the Zombies in the house. That's why he didn't wake us.

MOLLY

Is she still online?

JACOB

I don't know, hold on.

JACOB opens up MSN and signs in as JACK. (his password is stored).

JACOB

She is!

MSN

Grace says: Thank god you're still here, I thought, when you said you were leaving... When you hadn't gotten here... that you'd... Thank god you're okay!

Jack says: This is Jake... Jack hasn't come back, we haven't seen him since he left to go get you.

Grace says: Oh...

MOLLY

What is she saying?

JACOB

Jack never showed.

MOLLY

We have to go find him!

JACOB

We have no idea where he is though.

MOLLY

Where does Grace live? He'll have taken the quickest route to her, in the car. We just follow the road. Simple. Even if we don't find him, we can't just leave her to die alone.

Jacob doesn't say a word to MOLLY, instead he begins typing to GRACE.

MSN

Jack says: Look, I'm sure he's fine. Probably got held up with something...

Grace says: Yeah...

JACOB starts to type something else, but the internet connection is lost.

JACOB

What happened? The internet's gone.

MOLLY goes to the phone and picks it up..

MOLLY
Phone's dead.

CUT TO: BLACK
